The main directions of the Institute's scientific and research works are located in the following thematic areas: statics and dynamics of engineering structures, analysis of numerical models of structures subjected to various types of loads; dynamics of buildings subjected to seismic (anti-seismic engineering) and paraseismic influences; building identification and testing and assessment of the impact of vibrations on buildings (as well as people and equipment in buildings) in connection with vibration measurements on objects in a natural scale; diagnostics and protection of the environment against paraseismic effects (vibroinsations, vibroinsulation barriers); dynamics of foundations for machines, bridges, tower structures and masts with lashings; statics and dynamics of industrial chimneys; analysis of structures subjected to wind load and testing of models in the wind tunnel; material rheology; static and strength issues of thin-walled structures; mechanics of destruction, propagation of cracks in centers with micro-damage; rock mass mechanics; soil (ground) consolidation; optimization issues in the mechanics of engineering structures; statics and dynamics of atypical materials (rubber, composites, etc.).

The Institute has:

- Accredited Laboratory for the Study of Deformations and Vibrations of Buildings equipped with specialized equipment for the registration and analysis of mechanical vibrations, for building research in a natural scale and on models,

- Wind Engineering Laboratory with a modern wind tunnel,

- highly qualified staff of specialists (including experts in the field of environmental protection and construction).
